With a .0865" shim under the arbor I set the cone to cylinder gap at .0015".The photos below show one of the famous mahogany stocked rifles by Haines. The rifle I am using for inspiration is #81 shown in RCA vol 1. It is maple stocked but the patch box and carving are very similar to the mahogany stocked rifles. The over all appearance of the musket is very nice. It has a browned finished, instead of the standard bluing. The barrel is a 32" GM LRH 50 cal 1-28 twist. The action is from Taylor Machine.Then make a cutter along the design of a couple of saw teeth that fit the groove. This can cut the groove deeper and is advanced to the next groove. Then a paper shim is placed under the cutter and the process is repeated till the grooves are deepened to your goal. A slow and labor intensive job but rather simple.So after 4 years of just casual target shooting with friends, I decided I should get serious and see if I can get a load worked up for my gun and sight it in for big game. I recently purchased a Numrich Arms Swivel Barrel rifle (.45). I want to strip finish and brown it. My question is about disassembling the gun. The barrels are held onto the frame by a knurled bolt (?) that uses an allen wrench.The rifled barrel will spin the shot. When the shot leaves the muzzle it will open the pattern at very close range. The shot will most likely be damaged to add to poor shooting. Even in a smooth bore getting a good pattern can be a difficult. The .36 will hold up better in a breeze and will give you about 25 yards more range. For squirrel hunting, I like the .32 for when the leaves are still on the trees and shots are usually inside of 35 yards. Use lubes like olive oil or crisco or whatever you like best while you're shooting to keep the fouling soft enough to re-load.
